Fall 2020 Newsletter

Welcome to my Fall Newsletter!

While Covid-19 has meant no in-person events or shows over the past months, I’ve stayed busy painting and helping with virtual and online exhibitions and fundraisers. I’m sharing some of that work here, but please visit my websites and social media for more.

SMR Magazine Cover

Cover of the November 2020 edition of SMR Magazine.

Here is my  first SMR magazine cover of Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. on the November 2020 issue of SMR magazine. This is the official magazine for PSA (PSA certified price guide) and it is distributed to hobby stores around the country.  You can  subscribe to it at https://www.psacard.com/smrweb

I was very excited to paint Acuna Jr for the cover. He is one of the most exciting players in the game today to watch.  Look for more upcoming issues with James’ work on the cover, as well as a featured story.

Cal Ripken 2131

Remembering the day, 25 years ago, when Cal Ripken Jr broke The 2,310 – consecutive games record set by Lou Gehrig.

Woodlands Wildlife Refuge

COVID-19 caused Woodlands Wildlife Refugee to cancel two major in person fundraising events. Woodlands receives no state or federal funding and relies on donations. In these uncertain times, participation in online events like this virtual auction of my artwork helped offset losses as Woodlands continued to stay open in spite of fewer resources and volunteers, and has cared for over 1,400 orphaned and injured wild animals to date.

Tiz the Law

Watercolor of 2020 Belmont Stakes winner Tiz the Law. The painting was presented at the 27th annual Siro’s Cup fundraiser.

I painted Sackatoga Stable champion and 2020 Belmont Stakes winner Tiz  the Law during quarentine, and it was presented at the 27th annual Siro’s Cup fundraiser  to honor the racehorse. Owner Sackatoga Stable, managing partner Jack Knowlton, trainer Barclay Tagg, assistant trainer Robin Smullen and jockey Manny Franco were also be honored at the virtual event.

Visit my Horse Racing Gallery here to see all the horses I’ve painted over the years.

Splash 21

James Fiorentino was featured in the latest publication of Splash 21,
The Best of Watercolor.

 Watercolor on paper, 22 x 30

The artwork was inspired by a poem by Williams Carlos Williams. My intention was to capture the mood of the poem through art. Accentuating the texture of the plums, bowl and table gives a timeless quality to the scene, as it could be set in the past or the present. The studio work was drawn out using images as references. The colors jump off the page allows you to dive onto the table. The use of watercolor brings out the beauty of the simple scene.
